Dignity: Reflection

As I continue to try and grow as a person and as a leader, I have learned what the value of elevating and honoring dignity is. I have come to understand that connecting to the dignity of myself, the dignity of others, and to something higher is important in my journey as a person and leader. It is why I listen to and read daily the book Leading with Dignity by Dr. Donna Hicks PhD. It is my reminder to hold to the principles of dignity as life can often lead you down a path where your dignity can be violated, or you could violate the dignity of others.

As I have shared with you many times, I have had my dignity violated and I have violated the dignity of others. In both cases they have had a lasting effect on me and on those who I have harmed. This is a lifelong journey and I hope in the end I will be remembered for being someone who valued the dignity of others. I want to be remembered for the lives I have changed. I want to be remembered as the person who spoke for those who felt they had no voice. I want to repay all those people who helped me become a better person by paying it forward. We leave our lasting mark because of those lives we have touched both positively and negatively. My hope is that it will be more on the positive side.

What I am trying to say today is this. Every new day we get is a gift and an opportunity to make a difference. It is a new day to redeem yourself from past mistakes and a day to honor and elevate dignity. I hope that these posts have helped you in your journey because all of you are the reason, I write them.

Thank you for taking the time to read my words and thank you for sharing them with others.

My Name is Charles Redd and I am a Registered Nurse and I have been committed to Honoring and Elevating Dignity ever since I read to amazing book written by Dr. Donna Hicks called "Leading with Dignity: How to Create a Culture that Brings out the Best in People" It is an excellent book especially if you are looking to change the culture of your team. I have witness this positive change not only in myself but in teams I have led. Back in July of 2020 I coined the phrase "Dignity Friday". I based it on the 10 Essentials of Dignity created by Dr. Hicks. I have share personal stories of my dignity journey and I have received great feedback. I hope what I share with you each Friday will help you as you continue your life's journey.
