Dignity: Remembrance
During the last 2 weeks we have experienced some devastating tragedies in this country. First it was the shootings in Buffalo, NY and Laguna Woods, California and now the killing of 19 children and 2 adults at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. When I hear these stories, I ask myself why? This post is not about answering that question. We can debate what the solutions could be later but today my heart and mind are with all of those who have lost loved ones during these tragedies. I have no magical words that can ease the pain when you lose a child or a family member in this way. I still remember the pain I experienced at 20 years old when my cousin was killed in Boston, and it was the front-page story in the Boston Herald. All the emotions that you feel from sadness, to anger, to feeling hopeless. I am a person of faith so I will pray for all of those who are gone, and I will pray for those families and friends who are grieving.
In these times it makes you hold your families closer. It makes you appreciate what you have but also it makes us fearful of sending our children out into the world. I feel these things. I get scared sometimes. I think to myself I have no words to explain the unexplainable of why people kill for no logical reason. What do I say to my children when these events bring them fear? All I can do is listen and hopefully give them the strength to move forward as I must do for myself and my family.
Today I dedicate this post to all who have lost someone they loved. I will take time out of my day to sit in silence and remember you and those who have died.
This weekend, I will also remember all those who served this country in the armed forces who lost their lives in order to protect our freedoms. Memorial Day is a time to remember them.
